A new term, a new era, nay, epoch for Tapfactory. The magazine is back, but not as you know it.

This term we’re going to be bringing you Tapfactory in a rather different format. The issue will be presented as a bundle of goodies tucked into a charming little envelope - you will open it and out might spring poems-on-postcards, individual photos, short stories stitched into mini-books, fold-out posters, illustrated bookmarks, text-on-acetate, illutrated puppets and other treats. These are only suggestions, starting points. Precisely what it contains is, of course, up to you. We want to hear your proposals for ideas, whether it’s something you’d like to do yourself or a suggestion for others to get started on, ASAP. Even if you are idealess but fancy getting stuck in, lending your artistic/editorial/coordinating talents, being commissioned - let us know. Send your interest thisaway, s.c.morris@warwick.ac.uk.

This does NOT mean, however, that Tapfactory will be anything less than its usual self in terms of content. No sirree. We will have the same amount of poetry, fiction, creative journalism, drama, art, photography, illustrations etc as any other issue, and all of the same high standard. Our aim is to experiment with the way in which this content can be presented and to give you all something that you’ll actually want to keep hold of, to stick on your wall, to keep coming back to.

Deadline for content is Monday Week 5, as per usual - also as per usual to tapfactorysubmissions@hotmail.co.uk - and we will be spending the following two weeks bringing it all together.

We’re all very excited about this project in the Tapfactory Cave, we hope you are too!

Refreshers’ Fair

If you still haven’t picked up your copy of Tapfactory #4, we’ll be selling them at the Refreshers Fair on Friday of Week 1, Term 2. An issue costs a mere 50p and this goes entirely towards printing costs, a very worthwhile cause indeed!

The Fair will be a fantastic opportunity to have a chat with the Arts Publication Society exec, to find out more about our plans or next term and how you can get involved - it’s never too late to do so.

Meanwhile, we’re already on the lookout for material for Issue 5, so please send all your creativity to tapfactorysubmissions@hotmail.co.uk by Monday of Week 5, Term 2.

End of Term Social- A Tasty Reward!

To wrap things up nicely at the end of term and toast to all our hard work I’ve booked us a table at the lovely Elachi Indian Restaurant on High Street (the one that leads on to Radford Road). The table’s booked for 7.30 on Monday 3rd December (week 10) and it would be lovely to see as many of the gang as possible, and with a Buy-One-Get-One-Free offer on all main meals so long as you flash your student card we can afford to spend a little more on the merriment- which should continue with drinks after! Write it in your diaries! xxx

#4 Launch and Birthday Party

Tapfactory is ONE! Come along to our very special celebration, complete with party hats and other birthday paraphernalia. It’s the first opportunity you’ll get to read Issue 4 before it’s unleashed campus-wide in Week 9. £2.50 entry fee will get you lucky boys and girls a copy of the magazine, a slice of cake and a chance to hear readings from the issue and some awesome live music (as well as a very special theatrical performance…) Join us to raise a glass to the birthday babby!

We’ll be treating you to a headline performance from Warwick’s finest, The Rrrs (www.myspace.com/therrrs) as well as Ivan Dobsky (the new project from the Jaffa Rose gang) and Ben Osborn (singer/songwritery goodness).

It’s all happening Sunday November 25th at the Jug and Jester in Leamington, 8pm. Be there!

Celebratory Drink

Maybe an exercise in savage forward-thinking, but we would like to invite everyone to a special drink in the Graduate next Monday (Week 7) to celebrate Issue Four’s coming together. This will be instead of our weekly meeting so come say hello at 5pm and, knowing the inclinations of certain exec members, this drink will extend past the hour - so if you’re not usually able to make our 5pm Monday meetings, now’s your chance to show your face. I think we’re all going to need something strong after the stress of this week…

Warwick Student Writing Festival

The Warwick Student Writers’ Festival 2008 is a new festival to be launched on campus in May 2008. It will be England’s FIRST EVER national student writing festival and we want to make it big to establish Warwick as the student writing capital of the UK!The festival will take place over a weekend in mid-May in the Capital Centre (http://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/morleyd/entry/national_student_writing/) and will be a national event hosting students’ and professionallly-run writing events throughout the two days.

Making Tapfactory!

Tapfactory are spending this week (Reading Week no less) in the DTP Room in Union North, putting Issue 4 together. Please come along and help us out - we’re going to be laying content out using Adobe InDesign and working out how it’s going to look - illustrations, fonts, titles etc. It’s one of the most exciting events in the Tapfactory calendar and always great fun!

Tin Angel

Another Open Mic night, this time happening in Coventry at the Tin Angel pub on the first Tuesday of every month. It’s compered by John Morley of Heaventree Press, and is very friendly. The New Writing exec and some of the Tapfactory exec are definitely heading over that way on Tues Nov 6th, clutching our poems and stories in our hot little hands, so if anyone wants to go or wants directions please Facebook me or Tori Truslow, or drop me an email (e.turney@warwick.ac.uk). It’s a really nice night, and a good chance to showcase your work to a wider audience. Hope to see lots of you there.

OPEN MIC NIGHT

Open Mic Night in the Writer’s Room in the CAPITAL Center @ Milburn House (Facebook me or Scott for directions) on Weds 14th November, in conjunction with New Writing society. Let us know if you fancy reading or just turn up armed with writing on the night. Poetry, prose, drama…whatever you’re pleased with we want to hear it! Hope to see lots of you there.

We are no longer accepting submissions for #4 of Tapfactory.

Anything reaching us from now onwards will be kept for consideration for next term’s issue. Thank you everyone who submitted, we’ve had some very excellent stuff! If you’d like to help out with the content decision, make sure you come along to the editorial meeting on Wednesday this week (Week 5), 5pm S1.14 (Social Studies building).

All society members will be receiving the submissions to ponder over shortly…
